Jokes On You

I hate April Fool's Day because I hate pranks. They aren't funny to me. Someone getting you to believe something and then saying "JUST KIDDING!" Maybe I have trust issues or maybe I'm just too gullible (hello, therapist?) but this does not make me laugh.

So go with me on a journey as I tell you the books that make me laugh.

Samantha Irby, "Wow, No Thank You"

If you are a millennial woman, you will understand everything Irby writes here and laugh your butt off while reading it.

Amber Ruffin/Lacey Lamar, "You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey"

I've already brought this to the blog, but I've never read a book that both made me laugh out loud while also made me rage.

Kevin Wilson, "Nothing to See Here"

Kids spontaneously combus when they get mad? What's not to laugh at??

David Sedaris, "Me Talk Pretty One Day"

An American in France, but not just any American- David Sedaris. IYKYK. If you can get the audio version with Sedaris's droll way of reading, it would be the best way to consume this hilarious short story collection.

Gail Honeyman, "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine"

Eleanor is a character you will not forget. Sometimes you laugh but sometimes you want to hug her (but don't because she probably doesn't want you to). A book I will probably re-read, which is saying something because I'm not a re-reader.

Looking at my read list, I need more books that make me laugh. What's a book that makes you chuckle? Chortle? Guffaw? Or just all out howl?

Currently Reading- "Gilead" by Marilynne Robinson and "The Only Plane in the Sky" by Garrett M. Graff

My name is Laura. I am a librarian and review books on The Alabama Take. You can follow me at bamareads on Instagram where I also talk about books. I really like talking about books.  It’s nice to be here. 😃
